HOME IS WHERE IT’S AT

One of the aspects of midwifery care is getting home visits for you and your baby for the entire 6 weeks of its infancy. This means that you get to just relax and have us come to you.

The number of home visits varies depending on the need but in general involves several in the first week and then they slowly taper off as you and baby are stable and thriving. We do medical checks on you to ensure you are recovering from the birth, assess your mental health, trouble-shoot challenges and spend lots of time on supporting your feeding plan to ensure it is achieved. We do physical assessments on the baby, including weights, to ensure baby is reaching its targets and any concerns are addressed. Staying at home reduces stress, allows you to rest more, and protects both of your immune systems by keeping you safe in your nest where you should be when you are nurturing a brand new life.

Should you or your baby require additional assessments by a physician, obstetrician, pediatrician or anyone else, we arrange all of these with expediency. Public Health Nurses will also be offering you home visits which we encourage, as they are also a wealth of knowledge and resources that many families find valuable.
