Amanda was my midwife through Pomegranate Midwives, and supported me through my pregnancy and after my daughter was born. My pregnancy, and transition into motherhood, was one of the hardest times of my life. I struggled immensely with my mental and physical health. I honestly don’t know if I would have made it through that time without the type of support that Amanda offered. She offered a level of empathy, compassion and support that enabled me to get through that time feeling connected and strong. She is non judgemental, encouraging and is great at helping to navigate challenges that arise. Amanda went above and beyond what is expected of a midwife, and I honestly could not have asked for a perfect person to support me through the transition of becoming a mother. I would highly recommend her to support any family through the transition of parenthood. - Avis O’Brien and Kyuusda

Making the choice to have Amanda by my side for our first pregnancy was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Her knowledge and ability to answer all my questions with such calmness helped prepare me for a moment that would change my life.

Lehe was on call for our delivery, and helped me through a very difficult and long labour with what I can only describe as the caring touch of a lifelong friend.

The postpartum at home care we received from both Lehe and Amanda was so much more than expected. The transition into motherhood was a beautiful experience and we felt so much ease because we knew we were fully supported by our midwives. Every question was answered thoroughly through our visits, as well as in between as they came up.

I cannot recommend midwifery care enough. We have a choice in how we are cared for before, during, and after birth. I truly believe midwives are the very highest level of care available and an under-utilized resource here in B.C.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you both.

With love,

I chose Amanda as my midwife for my second pregnancy and wish she had been there for my first as well. Her warm, gentle and caring personally was very much appreciated as she supported me during my pregnancy, delivery and postpartum with my daughter.

Never any pressure to do anything that I wasn’t comfortable with, instead providing a wealth of information and opinions, guiding me in choosing what I wanted.

I was never once rushed out of an appointment and so thankful for the 6 weeks of postpartum home visits. She always took time to listen to every concern I had and answered all my questions, never once rushing me and always make sure I was happy.

Always ensuring I was doing okay during a rough postpartum recovery period and following up daily was just one of the reasons why I am so grateful for the care she provided.

I would recommend Amanda in a heartbeat for anyone looking for a calm, and comforting, respectful and caring maternity provider, she’s simply amazing! I feel very lucky to have had her as my midwife.

Amanda was my midwife for my second pregnancy. She was and is the best!! She helped me so much, answered all my questions and was very supportive. I had a successful VBAC thanks to her. She was also so helpful postpartum and went over and beyond to help me exclusively breastfeed. She really cares and that is something so hard to find these days! A complete 360 experience from the care I had with my firstborn. I wish I would have met her sooner! Midwifery is the way to go. The whole experience prenatal, labour and postpartum was a very healing journey for me with Amanda's support. I actually enjoyed my pregnancy, I loved my birth and had a smooth postpartum transition thanks to her. Even my spouse noticed the difference and was very happy with Amanda's care.Thank you so much for your support and providing the best care for my baby and I.

When I found out I was pregnant, I was very clear on choosing to be under the care of a midwife. It’s a level of care that you just don’t get in a doctors office. For me, it was important not only to have someone with a great deal of experience but also someone who I feel I could call a friend. Pregnancy & especially birth is such an intimate experience and Amanda was that person for me. She was always so supportive & knowledgeable and never pushed advice or views on us. She listened intently & guided us to more information to make our own decisions. My husband and I knew we wanted to have a home birth and felt so comfortable with Amanda. I can genuinely say I loved my pregnancy & especially loved my birthing time knowing she was by my side. The home visits post birth were also so amazing because we could just enjoy being in newborn wonderland without needing to leave the house for checkups.

We were so lucky to be on the Coast for our first pregnancy and have Amanda as our midwife. She set the bar so high & I can only hope to manifest another midwife as amazing as Amanda for any future pregnancies we may be blessed with.

I looked up Amanda Reid specifically when we moved to the coast, she used to work with a very esteemed midwife practice in the Vancouver area when we lived there and my naturopath referred me to that practice, and they referred me to Amanda. I was so excited to work with Amanda when we got pregnant that I booked my first apt right at our 3 month mark, but you can book her anytime in your pregnancy. What I was most excited about was having more detailed appointments, some up to 60 minutes, this allowed me to ask all my questions and have more detailed care. I also knew that I had the choice of either a home birth, home water birth or a hospital birth (with a midwife or GP). With a midwife the flexibility is there.

Then after birth she comes to do home visits for the first 6 weeks which is invaluable. All for free because I'm a BC resident. I'm surprised how many women still don't know a midwife is free, equally trained as a delivery doctor, and provides more attentive care than a doctor. Also I still hired a doula because it was my first birth and I was quite anxious because my birth story from my mom was a big deal. I had a lot of fear to overcome so I wanted the most support possible. The doula was an out of pocket expense and she is there to hold my hand the entire 19 hours I was in labour, like an experienced companion who's seen it all. (For doulas, anyone who identifies as Indigenous can apply for a grant for their doula and it's free for them. Many don't know that as well.) Love and blessings to any expectant mom looking for their birth team.

I feel so blessed to have had Amanda by my side in the most nerve-wracking yet most amazing, transformative time of my life. Amanda helped me feel empowered, safe and confident in my ability to bring new life into the world. Amanda provided me with the education and encouragement to make decisions that felt right for me and my baby. When I felt stuck or uncertain, Amanda was a great source of information and talked me through difficult choices until I felt comfortable. And I felt so loved! It was so easy to get in touch with her about general questions or with more urgent issues, and she frequently checked in on me until an issue was fully resolved. I always felt like Amanda had enough time for me, enough emotional and physical support to give, and like she was committed to helping me feel well and secure enough to enjoy my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience. - Eden Mekbib

Both my partner James and I are very grateful for Amanda’s support and expertise when it came to the pre and post natal care for our baby boy!

Amanda followed me through my pregnancy from my first trimester to birth and even over a month post birth! Amanda was always very personable and very thorough with her visits. She has a lot of experience and understanding around birth and made me feel comfortable knowing everything I was going through was normal and natural, which allowed me to trust my body.

Amanda was really good with providing me with informed consent. Each visit I had at her home office was a good amount of time to have a verbal check in and do an assessment of the baby.

Amanda was very resourceful and helped me connect with other birth support on the coast. Everything fell into place and I had an amazing pregnancy, birth and post natal care.

With all things as perfect as they could be, my baby boy was born at a low birth weight. Therefore, Amanda came to my home for over a month post birth to check in on my baby by with weighing him, helping me with breast feeding and helping me settle into motherhood.

I will forever be grateful for the care I received with Amanda and I would recommend her to anyone looking for midwifery care on the Sunshine Coast! - Pamela Jones

I feel very fortunate to have had Amanda as my midwife for my pregnancy. In a world that can make the perinatal experience very stressful with multiple tests, check points, and looming fears throughout, Amanda was an oasis of calm reassurance. She was knowledgeable and approachable in her work with me. I always felt comfortable asking questions, and if there was a question Amanda wasn’t sure on an answer for she was quick to do some digging and come back with more information.

This pregnancy was my first, so having Amanda there to walk me through each step was great. It felt more like a knowledgeable friend helping me than a rushed medical practitioner. She got to know me, and I felt seen and heard by her through the entire pregnancy and six weeks of follow-up postnatally.

Once my little guy was born she was, again, a guiding light and sense of calm through the massive hormonal, identity, and life changes that having a baby initially brings. I always felt more relaxed and confident after she checked in on us.

I cannot recommend Amanda and Lehe more. They are both as thoughtful and kind as they are knowledgeable, and I would use their care again in the future.

Amanda was a great midwife. I came to her midway through my pregnancy as I was new to the coast and really enjoyed the more personalized care.

When I had concerns about my weight gain she was very reassuring and body positive. Baby’s due date was during the Covid pandemic, during that time Amanda kept us up to date and calm about hospital requirements and what we could expect.

After baby was born we had 1000s of questions which she quickly responded to. When breastfeeding wasn’t going as planned she helped us try different things and then connected us to a lactation consultant. She kept checking in to make she baby was gaining and was on track.

I would recommend Amanda to anyone and look forward to working with her for my next pregnancy.

The care I received from Amanda was amazing. She helped me through my pregnancy, birth and post partum of my second son, who is now one 😭. Amanda listened to my fears, thoughts, concerns, joys. She was a true support throughout my entire experience. I am knowingly outspoken and a harsh critic of medical supports. Amanda exceeded all my expectations, advocated for me when necessary. She became my confidant near the end and I couldn’t have asked for a better midwife. Thank you so much for the truly remarkable service. Sorry it took me a year to write it 😂😂

Amanda was a warm and kind practitioner throughout my pregnancy, labour and postpartum care.

Throughout my pregnancy I found that many people had a lot of misunderstanding regarding midwifery care, such as believing midwives only provide birth in a home setting, and don’t allow women to have treatment for pain, among other outdated beliefs. In fact, Amanda was a wealth of knowledge, providing up to date, evidence based information to help guide my decisions and was nonjudgemental throughout the process of any decisions I made.

Amanda was incredibly calm and yet decisive in high stress situations, instilling confidence in both my husband and I.

We are very lucky to have two amazing midwives on the Sunshine Coast, as we found Amanda’s partner, Lehe, equally as lovely and knowledgeable. Together they provided amazing 24/7 coverage for any concerns we had throughout my pregnancy.

The six weeks postnatal care offered in my home was absolutely invaluable during dreary winter months when I had no interest in taking myself or my newborn out!

I would not hesitate to recommend Amanda and midwifery care to my friends and family and will definitely use Amanda again in the future if we have another child.

After four years of infertility, we finally became pregnant. When I took my test at my doctors office, the doctor stated that since I was "full figured" that later in my pregnancy, they would probably need to get me registered at the hospital for a cesarean. At that exact moment I referred myself to a midwife clinic in my area. I did all the research I could and learned the many benefits to hiring a midwife for pregnancy, birthing time, delivery and aftercare. As luck would have it, I was put in the care of Amanda several times for my check ups (at Pomegranate Midwives in Vancouver). The patience, honesty, compassion and level of knowledge and understanding Amanda shared with us with through each of our interactions was a gift that I will always cherish. We had so many questions. Amanda always gave us options, empowering us with keeping consent over my body and my baby, throughout our time together. She was able to offer us procedures and it was up to us whether or not we wanted to choose them. I never felt judged or pressured once. We decided to have a hypnobabies home birth, and Amanda was with me through that too. I was really so happy to know she was on call that night! I had stalled and there was talk of me having to receive medical intervention (which I really didn’t want). She helped me stay home and power through! She had me doing squats, going up the stairs in different ways, she held my hand and sat beside me as I laboured in peace. She held my hair when I was sick, she was an angel. My baby and I were completely supported, respected and guarded. Amanda supported me by giving me soft direction, honouring my birth plan, and sticking by my side. When my son and I were ready (after 23 hours of peaceful and powerful labor) Amanda gently caught my sweet baby, helped me learn to breastfeed and encouraged skin to skin and delayed cord clamping. Those moments to land our babe earthside in peace and calmness are some of the most beautiful moments I've ever witnessed; and Amanda facilitated this for us. She was able to keep us safe and monitored closely while keeping space for intervention if needed. Amanda came over to our home every day for the first week to weigh Wilder and check on us. These visits are scheduled to support the baby and new parents in health, learning, and becoming comfortable in the transition. This is the kind of care mothers who see other practitioners just do not receive. I am beyond honoured that Amanda was our midwife. I will recommend her services to anyone wanting the support of a very compassionate soul who will respect and honour you and your family. If you get the opportunity to have her support, it will help you greatly, on many levels. - Jessica H and baby Wilder

When my partner and I got pregnant there was no question we wanted midwifery care. As a woman, I preferred the empowering and respectful care midwives provide. As a medical professional, I respected their evidence based, multi disciplinary approach. With Amanda as our care provider we had both. Our prenatal appointments were personal, comprehensive and reassuring. She guided us through a very long labour with calm confidence, not hesitating to consult other disciplines to ensure she was providing the most comprehensive care. Post-partum she helped us navigate a whole new existence. Above all, the choice of who brings your child into the world (and it is a choice) is hugely important. We are so thankful that Amanda took this journey with us- we are healthier and happier for it.

The best decision I made for my pregnancy was going to a midwife. Amanda was absolutely amazing during the pregnancy, birth, and post postpartum. The visits were always so personal, not like the rushed in and out of a drs office. I would go back a million times over and recommend her to everyone.

We cannot say enough positive things about our experience with Amanda as our midwife.

Our first pregnancy was with a doctor, and as much as we loved our doctor, we certainly noticed a difference in care. We thoroughly enjoyed our prenatal appointments with Amanda, and appreciated that we always had every opportunity to ask as many questions as we needed. Not once did we feel rushed with the hour-long appointments! She supported us in making thoughtful decisions about our pregnancy, and was happy to answer any other concerns we had over text.

During the birth of our second son, I felt totally safe and supported. The postpartum support, including home visits, was thorough, and provided me with the physical and emotional support I needed. Amanda was very calm and comforting. She always seemed to understand and know how to support us all. We are very grateful to Amanda and her team!!

Amanda was one of 5 midwives on our team in Vancouver. We loved having Amanda on our team. She was imperative during my labour, was there with great advice and care exactly when we needed it. Only halfway through my labour did we discover she was one of our favourite DJs! It was such a pleasure to have someone from our community care for me and our new baby. Amanda understood our place more than anyone else on the team because she lives our lifestyle. That was priceless to us in this major transition time. We felt a sense of friendship and community from her that was incredible! Highly recommend her expertise to anyone looking for a midwife. - Claire Gabereau, Alex and baby Elira

As a first time mother I had no idea what maternity care options were available to me, let alone what a birth plan was. I didn't consider having a midwife until a few months into my pregnancy when I decided to meet with Amanda and Lehe and I'm so glad I made the transition into what I felt was a more personalized and in depth approach to maternity care for myself. Amanda gently guided me through the unbelievable journey into motherhood and I am so thankful to have had her on my team. Any apprehensions I had throughout my pregnancy and birth were lifted by the wealth of knowledge and experience Amanda had and was able to take the time to share with me. It was invaluable being able to call her anytime to ask a question without having to make an appointment. Whenever I felt unsure her calm reassurance helped me feel at ease. Her knowledge, thoroughness and attention to detail supported me in making informed decisions, so I felt in control of the process every step of the way. I was so grateful for the 6 weeks of home visit care postpartum, something which is so often overlooked. We are a small town that doesn't have as many options as a big city but we are so fortunate to have this team of midwives working together with our community to make midwifery care accessible to everyone. Thank you for all you do! - Serafina and baby Marlina
